Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
Today, Chris and I have been married for 8 wonderful years. We decided that with Christmas and the boys birthday surrounding our anniversary that the date tended to be overlooked. I don't want it to be overlooked because the anniversary of our marriage is important. It means more to me that some flowers and a hug as we fly out the door to spend our holiday time with family. How many times have we done the "This is your Christmas/Anniversary present?" So this year, in an effort to make each of us actually stop and THINK about our anniversary we decided that we would find a traditional gift for one another symbolizing the year of our anniversary. Example: 8th year = Bronze or Pottery. We did set a dollar amount limit, too.
I thought that Chris had it pretty easy. I went to Amazon.com and typed in Bronze and I loved the first 10 things that came up. All were within budget. And Chris did great! He got me a bronze statue of a man and a woman hugging. It's beautiful.
However, women, can you think of anything in the Bronze/Pottery category that your husband would love? There was nothing for a man. Nothing. After MONTHS of research I finally found out some enlightening information...fishing hooks are made of bronze. So that's what he got....fishing hooks, of every size and shape. It was the perfect gift for him.
The beauty of the whole thing was that the "project" made us actually stop and think about one another. In our research, we thought and reminisced about the time we have spent together. It was no longer about the gift. It made it so much more. I know that Chris really put time and effort into it because he had to use his brain, not just his credit card.
So...start thinking about next year and give me some ideas. 9th anniversary =Pottery or Willow.

We have been doing the traditional gifts all along and have so much fun with it. For our "willow" anniversary, we stayed at a place in New England with "willow" in the title. For our "pottery" anniversary, we bought a bread warmer at the Gruene pottery shop to commemorate our trip there and also a large decorative pot to set in our house, and later our flower bed. So fun! Happy Anniversary!!
