Text Messages from the Babysitter

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful babysitter (aka Mom).  Sometimes throughout the day, she text me to let me know how the boys are doing and what cute things they have done.  Here are some of the recent messages I've received:

"When we listen to the Apples and Bananas song, the boys need to have a banana."

"Hunter just went poop in the potty.  Kayin was in the bathroom with us.  Hunter gets off the potty.  We all (of course) have to look at it.  Kayin says ...are you ready for this... "You are the Man, Hunter!"  Haha"

"Heath just ate 3 chicken nuggets, a bowl of Cheerios, a bag of Welches gummies, a cinnamon roll and an orange.  That's not counting all the M&Ms and milk and juice."

"Don't forget to pay me.  It was due on the 20th!!"  (Haha.  I always forget)

"Hunter was looking for his ball.  Being the sweet extra wonderful Mimi that I am, I asked, "What did it look like?" Thinking...basketball, blue, green, orange...  He answered, "Round."

"Hunter and Kayin won't let Heath play doctor on them.  They think he is too rough.  I don't really blame them."

Amputating Heath's legs.

Hope these brightened your day as much as they do mine.

Heath's Guardian Angel

I am so blessed to have two.  God gave me two.  I haven't always understood why, but I am so thankful to have two.

One reason God might have given me twins is so that Heath will always have an extra set of eyes watching out for him.  That child is exhausting.

The other day Chris took the boys up to the church with him to mow and weed the yard.  The boys were happily playing in a tree when Chris rounded a corner and was out of view for a short moment, mowing.  Chris was only out of sight for a minute when Hunter came running around the corner yelling at Chris, saying, "Dad, Heath-y's in trouble."  Chris quickly stopped mowing and hustled towards the tree where they were playing.  There he found that Heath was hanging by his shirt from the tree with his arms and legs dangling.  Apparently he had slipped in the tree and his shirt had caught on a broken limb.  He had a large "rope-burn" looking mark on his neck, but otherwise, was no worse for the wear.

I'll have to admit, when Chris told me the story, I may have been a little upset with him for not watching our sweet children a little closer.  I may have gotten on to him for letting them climb the tree in the first place.  I may not have been the sweet little wifey that I'm supposed to be because I thought he nearly killed one of our kids.  I may have still glared every time the story was mentioned.  That was until Saturday...

You see, Saturday, I was planting the garden while the boys were playing on the play scape about 20 feet from me.  Chris was gone to work.  Between every plant that I planted, I would stand up and check on the boys.  They had piled leaves at the top of their 3 story play scape and were pretending that they were eating breakfast.  Everything was going great until I was planting another tomato plant and Hunter came around the corner.   "Mom, Heath-y's in trouble."  Where had I heard this before?  I quickly dropped the gardening spade and sprinted around the corner to find Heath hanging by his shirt from the green peg on the rock wall of the play scape.  He was unable to get his feet back on the next peg so he just freely hung, until I lifted him off and untangled his shirt.  He wasn't hurt.  Not a scratch was on the kid.  He just smiled at me and went back to playing.

I immediately texted Chris and apologized for every doubting him and explained what had just happened to me.  We decided Heath should definitely play without shirts on from now on.

The real "Hero" of the time is Hunter.  It's funny how calm he stays and says, "Heath-y's in trouble."  I thank God every day for my two and I ask him to watch over them both and keep them healthy and safe.  I especially thank God for the extra set of eyes to watch over my Heath-y.

Hop on the Potty Train!

I've been a little hesitant to post about this in fear that we will have a major relapse, but we've made it almost a week with out a single accident so here it goes...

Heath is officially Potty Trained!
I am so proud of this little guy!  Hunter has been potty trained since Christmas and I was starting to think it would be College, or at least High School before we got there with Heath.  However, once he came around to the idea, he actually did better than Hunter.  Now we only use diapers for nap time and night time. I'll fight that battle another day!  Hallelujah!  I thought this day would never come.

Oh Happy Day....Have I Been Waiting for You!

Oh Happy Day!  I have waited for this day for a long time.  Every since I started feeding the boys solid foods and they spit or threw them back at me.  I've waited for this day since they smeared ketchup all over my refrigerator.  I've been waiting since they dropped a Dr. Pepper and it spewed all over the entire kitchen (ceiling included).  I've waited since they realized that if they bite into a cherry tomato really quickly it will shoot the seeds onto the wall.  Oh! Sweet Day!  I have been waiting for you!

...and to top it all off...they actually enjoy it!  They get to put a sticker (magnet) on their chart and that makes it super fun!  Oh Happy Day!

Spring Break 2012

This spring break we took off with Chris's family and went to the Purple Sage Ranch in Bandera, TX.  We were the only ones there for spring break.  The resort was wonderful and despite Heath getting sick, we had a wonderful time.

The owner of the Ranch flew in the day we got there, and the boys LOVED seeing the bright red helicopter that he showed up in.
The next day, the boys got to see it leave.  That was another highlight, but they were both very disappointed that they didn't get to ride in it.
The ranch had a fishing pond where the boys and Daddy had a blast catching fish.
There was also a heated swimming pool that we had the chance to try out (once, the only sunny day).  They loved it, but this may have been the start to Heath's ear infections, at least it didn't help.
Riding tricycles around the property was a great way to spend the day.
It was even more fun when Mommy and Daddy joined riding the "Bicycle built for Two", which I might add is not as easy as it looks.
The entire property was covered in these wonderful smelling Mountain Laurel bushes.  By far my favorite smelling plant when they are blooming.

Tuesday afternoon, we had a small skeet shooting competition.  The ranch has an amazing set up.  It's safe to say that Momma is not as good as she used to be "before children."  Haha.
We came away with a few small injuries, Hunter got "bit" by a fish while he was holding it.
Poor Heath.  We took him to the doctor on Wednesday and he was diagnosed with a double ear infection and an eye infection.
On Friday, when we could tell he wasn't getting any better we took him back to the doctor, where his illnesses had elevated into a slight case of pneumonia.  Sweet baby is now on TONs of medicine and finally today (Sunday) is starting to show signs of improvement.

We did have a wonderful time with Lolly and Pops and the rest of Chris's family.  We always look forward to our Spring Break adventures with them.  Maybe next year we can leave the sickness at home.

My Rough and Tough Two

Riding the horsey, turns in to an all out brawl around our house. The boys love to play their invented game "Tat-tat." They are so much fun!
Just a normal day at the Amthor household.

On another note, I just couldn't pass up this picture. I'm so proud.  Hunter colored this picture of a "T" for Trees and stayed in the lines.  His fine motor skills are really starting to develop.  Proud Momma!

A Dog and a Kid

A Dog and a Kid
Author: Berton Fraley

No one will invent and no one ever did

A happier pair than a dog and a kid.

For doubt can't bedim nor can worry befog

The gay zestful way of a kid and a dog.

A throb with adventure, their hearts beat as one,

Their pulses surge with the rhythm of fun.

They swing into action as impulse may bid,

"Today is the day" for a dog and a kid.

Oh God, clear the pathway along which they jog

And smooth out the bumps for a kid and his dog.

And make the world that they wander amid

A place truly fit for a dog and a kid.
